In international trade, barite can be divided into three grades according to different uses. See Table 7 for details.

Grade requirements: drilling grade density ≥ 4.2g/cm, BaSO4 ≥ 92%, 200 mesh screen allowance less than 3%, 325 mesh screen allowance less than 5%, chemical grade BaSO4 > 95%, Fe2O3 and SrSO4 content not more than 1%, silicon oxide and calcium oxide only allowed to have trace paint grade, high whiteness, fineness at least 325 mesh
